Drone Photogrammetry/LiDar
High-Resolution Aerial Data for Accurate Site Planning
Overview

Bracken Engineering, Inc. (BEI) provided comprehensive existing conditions documentation for an 18-acre site. The project combined wetland delineation, field surveying, and advanced aerial drone mapping to support invasive species management, residential improvements, and the development of new site access. High-resolution LiDAR and photogrammetry were used to produce accurate topographic and site feature data for integration into Civil 3D.

Solution

BEI engaged wetland scientists to delineate multiple resource areas associated with two ponds and an abandoned cranberry bog. We also conducted field surveys to include wetland flag locations, project-specific field details, and a property bound survey. Lastly, we performed an aerial drone survey to capture full site conditions including: high-resolution topographic data via LiDAR, roadway and traveled-way details, and structure and utility locations.

Importance
The use of drone technology has transformed the way civil surveying is performed, providing faster, safer, and more accurate results than traditional methods alone. Drones allow surveyors to efficiently capture high-resolution aerial data over large or difficult-to-access areas, minimizing disruption to active sites and reducing safety risks to personnel.

For clients, this technology delivers significant benefits. Drone surveys provide highly detailed topographic data, improved site visibility, and more comprehensive project insights early in the design process. The result is better decision-making, fewer surprises during construction, and potential cost savings through reduced field time and increased accuracy.
